Our lawyers in Uganda have experience in the renewable energy market, advising sponsors, developers, financiers and regulatory bodies, among others, on transactions across the spectrum of renewable energy technologies, including hydro, solar and biomass.
We have hands-on, practical experience of delivering each stage of a project, including planning, permitting, joint ventures and other corporate matters, structuring equity investments, developing project documents (such as PPAs, EPC and O&M arrangements), project finance and M&A.
Experience has included advising:
- Access Power MEA on the establishment of a USD17 million 10 MW solar power station in Uganda under the GET FiT Program.
- Building Energy on the set up of a USD20 million 10 MW solar power station in Uganda under the GET FiT Program.
- Total Eren and Access Power MEA, as incoming sponsors, on the 100% equity acquisition of a USD12 million 10 MW solar power station.
- SkyPower Global on the establishment of 500 MW modular solar power plants in Uganda.
- Norfund in connection with the indirect acquisition of a 99% equity interest in a Ugandan special purpose vehicle formed for the development and operation of the 5.5 MW Rwimi mini hydro-electric power station.
- GIZ, the German development agency, on its financing and implementation of the Pro Mini-Grids Program, whose objective is to promote private sector involvement in mini-grid (less than 2 MW) electricity generation and distribution in select rural areas between 2018 and 2020.
- AMEA Power on the establishment of a 10 MW solar power station.
- Metier South Africa and African Clean Energy Solutions on the establishment of a 20 MW biomass power plant.
