The Rise of Renewable Energy in Tunisia: Legal Framework and Opportunities

Par Yosra Baccar

Tunisia is advancing its renewable energy agenda with strategic initiatives aimed at achieving 30% renewables in its energy mix by 2030.

Guided by Law No. 2015-12, the country has implemented key regimes—authorization, concession, and self-production—to promote solar, wind, and other renewable energy projects. The country also aims to become a major hub for green energy exports, benefiting from its strategic location between Europe and Africa.

While challenges such as land access, grid infrastructure, and regulatory complexities persist, these issues must be carefully examined and addressed to unlock the full potential of Tunisia’s renewable energy sector. Through public-private partnerships and tender calls for major projects, these efforts not only bolster energy independence but also attract significant international investments.
