Rodney Nganwa’s practice covers commercial disputes, corporate and commercial advisory. In dispute resolution, Rodney handles mandates in banking and financial services, commercial contracts insolvency and recoveries. In advisory work, Rodney acts for corporate and government entities on legal, regulatory and transactional matters, including regulatory affairs, corporate finance, corporate governance, commercial contracts, compliance and risk and legal due diligence.

Experience has included advising:

  • Representing TotalEnergies EP Uganda in several disputes arising from the exploration for oil in Uganda, including a dispute relating to the Central Processing Facility for oil.
  • Representing His Majesty’s Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in a contractual dispute with a Ugandan subcontractor. 
  • Representing MTN Uganda in proceedings arising from its Initial Public Offer of shares worth USD. 150,000,000.
  • Representing Stanbic Bank in the Supreme Court of Uganda in a matter with a subject matter value of USD. USD 1,190,000.
  • Representing the East African Development Bank in the Court of Appeal over a challenge to its immunity from prosecution.
  • Representing the National Environment Management Authority in the Court of Appeal in a UGX. 178,000,000,000 award against the Authority for cancellation of a mining license.
  • Representing a continental energy company in a novel application for recognition and enforcement of a London Court of International Arbitration award in Uganda.

  • Advocate admitted to the High Court of Uganda.

Education

  • Uganda Christian University, Mukono: Bachelor of Laws.
  • Law Development Centre: Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (bar qualification).
