DLA Piper Africa excels at African Legal Awards 2024

By James Kamau and Peter Somekh

DLA Piper Africa has showcased its pan-African strength at the African Legal Awards 2024 by securing several prestigious awards, including the highly coveted African Network/Alliance of the Year award and three out of four regional awards.

In recognition of the breadth and impact of its work across the continent, DLA Piper Africa was awarded:

  1. African Network/Alliance of the Year
  2. African Law Firm of the Year – East Africa
  3. African Law Firm of the Year – North Africa
  4. African Law Firm of the Year – Southern Africa

The firm was also privileged to accept the ESG Initiative of the Year award on behalf of the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) Legal Task Force, a Task Force which brings together leaders from global firms (including DLA Piper) to advance efforts on climate change and sustainability using the law. The award recognised SMI's Climate Training for Government Officials programme, a programme that has involved DLA Piper, DLA Piper Africa as well as other international law firm lawyers.

James Kamau, Chair of DLA Piper Africa, expressed his gratitude: “We are honoured to receive these awards, which reflect the confidence our clients have in our teams across the region and internationally. We are inspired to keep raising the bar in how we work across our offices, thinking boldly and helping clients to address their most pressing business challenges whether in Africa or globally.”

Peter Somekh, Managing Partner of DLA Piper Africa, added: “At the heart of these wins are our teams across our Africa offices who have built and maintained collaborative relationships with clients and each other underpinned by a desire to deliver an outstanding service. We thank our colleagues for living our values, and for helping us to achieve our goal to be the leading provider of legal services in Africa.”
