Associate - Barrister, Juristconsult Chambers

Pritesh is an Associate Barrister and is part of the Litigation team. He joined Juristconsult Chambers upon being admitted to the Bar of Mauritius. He acts as Counsel for both domestic and international clients in high value and high stakes commercial, corporate and civil disputes as well as in contentious insolvency matters.

Pritesh’s practice covers tax disputes, commercial litigation, employment matters, and real estate disputes. He regularly appears before Mauritian courts and tribunals such as the Assessment Review Committee. He also regularly undertakes corporate advisory work, providing legal advice and assistance to both domestic and international clients.

Pritesh has aquired overseas experience on multi-jurisdictional disputes involving shipping law,  international law, arbitration, and construction litigation.

Pritesh has a keen interest in the fintech and emerging technologies sector.

Experience has included:

  • Acting as junior Counsel in an application to set up a limitation fund under the Merchant Shipping Act in the amount of approximately MUR 720,000,000 following the grounding of the vessel MV Wakashio;
  • Acting as junior Counsel in an action for damages in the amount of USD 51,000,000, lodged by the heirs of a high net worth individual against a major conglomerate, following his demise in tragic circumstances,
  • Acting as junior Counsel for AVC Vacation Club in Mauritius in challenging the Mauritius Revenue Authority’s assessment before the Assessment Review Committee following tax losses of USD 18,055,335 which was brought forward by the client on the basis that those tax losses should be considered as bad debts;
  • Acting as junior Counsel for major companies in the Harel Mallac Group to challenge the Mauritius Revenue Authority’s assessment before the Assessment Review Committee in relation to customs reclassification of the HS codes of several imported products, resulting in claims of over MUR 19,000,000.
